Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray is one of Benjamin Moore’s most popular paint colors. It is a beautiful neutral gray paint color that goes very well with almost any kind of decor. It is a wonderful blend of beige and gray which makes it one of the most perfect greiges.

Welcome back to another paint color review of this gorgeous neutral paint color from Benjamin Moore. I am super excited to talk about Edgecomb Gray, it’s one of my favorite neutrals not just from BM but from anyone!

Neutral paint colors have been popular for a very long time now. Back in the 90’s and early 2000’s beige was king. Then the pendulum swung towards gray, and it swung hard!

Late 2000’s early teen’s cool-toned grays were all the rage but as usually happens, the pendulum swung back. A mixture of beige and gray is now the most popular type of neutral paint color and Edgecomb Gray fits the bill perfectly.

What Color is Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray?

Edgecomb Gray is a light neutral color. It is a greige color which means it has a good amount of beige in it to warm it up.

This color is like wrapping you in a warm, but neutral hug. It gives your home a natural beauty without taking away the personality of your decor.

This is a color I recommend to my Real Estate Clients for use in their home to sell quickly and for top dollar.

What undertones does Edgecomb Gray have?

I like to dive right into the undertones, because that’s what makes up a paint color. These undertones will give you different colors in different lights and can vary with what decor you pair them with.

I mentioned it earlier, Edgecomb Gray is a greige which means it has both beige and gray in it. Most greiges have green undertones and Edgecomb Gray does have them but it also has touches of pink. When paired with red decor, this can pull that pink out.

Edgecomb Gray is similar to Benjamin Moore Classic Gray in this respect, it’s kind of a chameleon. It can look beige in some lights and gray in others. It looks its best when used in a well-lit space with tons of natural light.

What is the LRV of Edgecomb Gray?

The LRV of Edgecomb Gray is 63, so this is considered a light paint color. Compare it to Classic Gray, which is a very similar paint color, it is a bit darker. Classic Gray has an LRV of almost 75!

LRV, just a reminder if you are new to the blog, stands for Light Reflective Value. This is a scale from 0-100 and measures how much light a color reflects. Zero being the blackest black and 100 being the whitest white.

Is Edgecomb Gray warm or cool?

Because Edgecomb Gray has green undertones and is considered a greige that means it’s a warm color. Warm paint colors tend to have these green undertones.

What is great about warm-toned paint colors is they are soft and cozy and really feel like your home is wrapping you up in a warm blanket.

How does light affect Edgecomb Gray?

Light has a huge effect on how a paint color will look in a room. Here are the basics:

• North-facing rooms have a light that tends to be a little cooler in nature and will come off slightly blue. Light colors will be a bit more muted or washed out while darker colors will be stunning.
• East-facing rooms will have brighter light in the morning and less in the evenings. The evening light will be a bit cooler. In the morning with sunrise, the bright sun will be warm. Warm color palettes are great for these spaces because they will help balance the cool feel of the evenings.
• South-facing rooms have consistent warm light throughout the day. The light really shows off the colors, dark will be very bright, and light colors will shine. Both warm and cool color palettes look good in a south-facing room.
• West-facing rooms have warm light in the evening and cooler light in the morning. Basically, it’s the opposite of east-facing.

What does this mean for Edgecomb Gray?

You will find that rooms facing east and west will have bright light in the morning or evening but will look darker when the light isn’t shining in.

North-facing rooms with the cooler light will make Edgecomb Gray brighter and cooler, more gray than beige. If a room is really flooded with light it can make this color a little washed out.

South-facing rooms with warm light will make the room look more on the beige side rather than gray.

The best way to know if a paint color is right for you would be to sample it in the space and look at it over the course of several days in different lights to determine if you like it.

How to know if EG is right for you?

When you look at these photos you are seeing them through your screen, be it your mobile device or computer. These colors can look a little different in real life and can look different in one home versus another.

You can go to the paint store and get a small sample can of paint and put it on your wall but that is messy and you are stuck with this extra paint that you can’t use. I really can’t recommend enough a company called Samplize.

Samplize will mail you a 12 by 12 inch of peel and stick paint sample that you can put on your wall and look at it over a few days, in different lights. Then when you decide you can peel it off and toss it! No fuss, no mess.

What colors go well with Edgecomb Gray?

I might have mentioned it before, but just in case I didn’t this color goes well with everything! I love using this color because it’s a great neutral that will help your special decor pieces shine.

But just in case you need some suggestions:

• cool dark gray colors
• dark grays with a green undertone
• warm whites
• light cool blues and blue-greens

What is the best White Trim Color to go with Edgecomb Gray?

I really prefer to pair Edgecomb Gray with a warm white paint color. The two I prefer are Simply White and White Dove.

These colors are warm, they have the warmer undertones just like Edgecomb Gray does, but they are light and bright. They will provide contrast to Edgecomb Gray but won’t be stark against the warm color.

The Best Places to use Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray

Edgecomb Gray is one of those all over the home paint colors. It can be used anywhere and will look amazing.

Because it is a neutral here are my favorite places to use this color:

• Kitchen (on the cabinets too)

Edgecomb Gray in a Bedroom

I just love all the windows in this bedroom. When you have this much natural light Edgecomb Gray shines! Super pretty details on the ceiling too.

EG on the Exterior

If I ever have a home near the ocean I imagine this is exactly what it will look like. The paint color on the exterior is just enough color without stealing the show. And you can see how beautifully Edgecomb gray pairs with the beiges in the stone.

EG in a Family Room

If you love neutral decor then I am guess this family room really speaks to you! There is something that is so calming about neutrals and you can see in this example how EG goes with both the beiges, whites, and grays.

EG in a Dining Room

So Much Better With Age decided to paint inside the picture frame molding with Edgecomb Gray. It goes really well with the browns in the wood floors and contrasts so nicely with the white on the walls around it.

EG in an Entryway

Young House Love used it in their entryway and I love this example because you can see how it looks in a space without a ton of natural light. You can see the green undertones coming forward here but it doesn’t look green. I also thing this color goes really well with the color of the wood floors.

What You Need to Know if Painting on Your Own

If you are thinking about painting a room on your own then good for you! This is one of the easiest things you can do yourself and you will get so much satisfaction out of it. Just make sure you have the right supplies.

You need a good quality paintbrush and roller cover. This is the most important thing! If you don’t use high quality the finish will not be to your liking.

Edgecomb Gray vs. Pale Oak

Right off the bat you can see that Pale Oak is much lighter. It also has a bit more yellow in it. They are both beautiful colors and I think they look really well against one another.

Edgecomb Gray vs. Revere Pewter

A decade ago the go-to color for selling your home was Revere Pewter! That has changed and I think it’s because Revere Pewter is a bit darker color than what is popular now.

Revere Pewter has an LRV of 55, while Edgecomb Gray’s is 63! That is much brighter when you look at them in a room. Here is a side by side.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Revere Pewter and I think it can look amazing in the right space. Right now light, bright, and airy is the feeling people want in their homes and I think you can achieve that more easily with a color like Edgecomb Gray.

Edgecomb Gray vs. Agreeable Gray

Both of these paint colors are considered greige paint colors but as you can see, Edgecomb Gray has more green undertones and Agreeable Gray has more purple undertones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Edgecomb Gray look yellow?

No, this color will not look yellow. Just because beige has yellow undertones doesn’t mean greige will. The gray in this color tones down any prominent undertones you might see.

Will Edgecomb Gray look green or pink?

When you compare Edgecomb Gray to other greige paint colors you will find that it has the least strong undertones of the bunch. The only way pink will show is if you have a ton of red decor in a south-facing room that will make it very warm.

It does have green undertones which are more likely to show than pink but as I said, this color is really neutral. But as always I recommend getting a sample to make sure you like it.

Will Edgecomb Gray look gray or beige?

Honestly the quick answer here is it depends on which way the room is facing. In a south-facing room it will lean a little more to the beige side because the light is warm.

In a north-facing room it will lean a little more gray because the light is cooler.

So the answer is it depends! Make sure you get a sample to check and see if you like the way it leans before investing in painting the whole room.

Is Edgecomb Gray the lighter version of Revere Pewter?

No it isn’t. They are very similar colors, and we will go into that more later, but they are not related at all. They actually have very different undertones.

What is the lighter version of Edgecomb Gray?

There really isn’t a lighter version of Edgecomb Gray unless you lighten it by a certain percentage. But that can be really tricky.

A color that would be the closest as a lighter version is Winds Breath.

Is Edgecomb Gray still popular?

You bet it is! Edgecomb Gray remains at the top of the list of Benjamin Moore’s most popular colors. and one of the most used greige colors on the market!
