What is Diploma in Pharmacy?

D. Pharm. is a diploma level course for candidates who wish to study pharmacy and begin a career in the medicine field. Pharmacy is a medical field which involves preparing, dispensing and appropriate use of medication meant for various treatment purposes. After completing the D.Pharmacy course, candidates are eligible to become registered pharmacists in India. D. Pharma is a two years long diploma programme. After completing the D Pharmacy course, candidates get opportunities to work both in public and private organisations. In India, there are a lot of companies in the pharmaceutical sector which provide job opportunities to the diploma holders in pharmacy. Candidates can get jobs in medicine stores of both private or government hospitals. Candidates can work in health clinics, NGOs, community health centres by checking the prescriptions, dispensing medicines and giving them advice and directions.

Candidates also may get entry level jobs in pharmaceutical companies at various divisions like process control, manufacturing and quality control. Initially the starting salary in jobs after completing D Pharmacy ranges from 8000 to 20000 rupees per month depending on candidates merit, interpersonal skills, profile of the employer, job profile and job location. Scope of D.Pharma courses

Candidates have a couple of options after completion of the diploma course in pharmacy. Candidates can get admissions into B pharma courses directly in the second year through the lateral entry scheme.

After successful completion of bachelor’s degree candidates can enroll in masters courses and then can go for doctorate courses in order to become researchers and analysts. After successful completion of the D Pharmacy, diploma courses in pharmacy candidates can start looking for jobs. The candidates at the entry level with an experience less than a year get Rs. 1,95,000 rupees per annum. Whereas, in the mid level of their career candidates with an experience of five to seven years get Rs. 3,00,000 rupees per annum. The candidates with the experience of nine to ten years are paid Rs. 3,25,000 per annum. The salary depends on factors like employer profile, job location and job profile; salary might vary depending on the cities, hospitals and much more.
