  • Multiply the length x width (for rows only measure growing space not pathways)
    • Examples:
      • A raised bed measuring 4' x 8' = 32 sq. ft
      • A planting bed / row measuring 10' long by 3' wide = 30 square feet
  • Common row lengths for market gardeners:
    • 3' x 50' = 150 sq. ft. (3' x 100' = 300 sq. ft.)
    • 4' x 50' = 200 sq. ft. (4' x 100' = 400 sq. ft.)
How to Calculating Volume for a raised bed:
  • length x width x height = cu. ft.
  • example: a raised bed measuring 4’ x 4’ x 6” deep = 8 cu. ft.
  • 1/2 cu.ft. = app. 5-Gallon
