A heated controversy surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 final trophy has reached new heights, with Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), firmly denying any reports of an apology to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In a bold statement, Naqvi accused the Indian media of spreading "fabricated propaganda" and thriving on lies rather than facts.
"I stand firm in my conviction that I have done nothing wrong and will never apologize to the BCCI," Naqvi wrote on X, emphasizing his unwavering stance.
The controversy began on September 28th when India defeated Pakistan, claiming their ninth Asia Cup title. During the post-match ceremony, a controversial decision was made by the Indian players to refuse the trophy and medals from Naqvi, citing strained geopolitical relations. This led to a unique situation where the presentation ceremony was delayed, and when it finally commenced, only individual awards were accepted by Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma from other dignitaries.
Naqvi, in a recent interview, expressed his readiness to conduct the presentation ceremony on the night of the final in Dubai. "As the ACC President, I was prepared to hand over the trophy then, and I am still ready now. If they truly desire it, they are welcome to visit the ACC office and collect it from me," he asserted.
However, during the ACC meeting in Dubai, attended by BCCI representatives Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar, Naqvi's actions were perceived as "beating around the bush." He did not explicitly commit to handing over the Asia Cup trophy or the winners' medals to India.
"It's unfortunate that India continues to bring politics into cricket, damaging the very essence of the game," Naqvi added, highlighting the controversial nature of the situation.
The row has sparked intense debates among cricket enthusiasts and political analysts alike. What are your thoughts on this controversial issue? Do you believe the political tensions should be kept separate from the spirit of the game? We'd love to hear your opinions in the comments below!
